MEET THE FLORENTINES

DaVinci

DaVinci

The ultimate Renaissance man. Painted The Last Supper, sketched flying machines, and invented the future in his spare time.

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa

The half-smile that launched a thousand theories. Maybe the most talked-about face in art history.

Botticelli

Botticelli

Painted The Birth of Venus. Think flowing hair, seashells, and gods with serious drama.

Raphael

Raphael

The Renaissance's smoothest operator. Known for painting perfect Madonnas and gathering great minds in The School of Athens.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo

A sculptor who painted reluctantly and still outclassed everyone. Carved David and painted the Sistine Chapel.

Machiavelli

Machiavelli

Coined the phrase, "It's better to be feared than loved." People have been quoting him in power moves ever since.

Medici

Medici

Florence's top patron, without him the Renaissance might've stayed in the sketchbook.

A GAMEBOY GALLERIA

GameBoy Galleria

The Florentines didn't know they were starting the Renaissance. They were competing for commissions.

The kids hunched over a Game Boy in 1991 weren't revering pixels as digital art. They were killing time until Cleveland.

Punks didn't imagine they'd kick off a movement. Onchain art became one anyway.

You probably won't know either. Mint a Florentine anyway.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are The Florentines?

A 100% on-chain collection of 1,401 NFTs. Each Florentine is a Renaissance figure (Michelangelo, Mona Lisa, etc.) rendered in a pixel-art Gameboy style. You randomly mint one, then control its aesthetic.

Why 1,401?

The Renaissance began in 1401.

Where do I mint?

On OpenSea. The "MINT ON OPENSEA" button on the homepage takes you directly there. The Florentines SeaDrop contract is a custom SeaDrop extension. Mint on OpenSea, then select your traits @ theflorentines.xyz.

How does minting work?

You randomly receive 1 of 7 unique Renaissance figures. There's no way to choose your character at mint — the contract picks it.

What chain?

ETH Mainnet, for maximum provenance.

What is the trait selector?

The trait selector is your control panel. After minting, you can choose your Florentine's traits from a pool of 140+ options (backgrounds, eyes, heads, mouths, necks). It's a preview tool that lets you pick combinations and swap them on-chain.

So my PFP won't have traits at mint?

Nope, and that's the fun part. Mint a random Renaissance figure, then decide who they become. It's an onchain two-act play.

What is SSTORE2?

SSTORE2 is a cheap and efficient onchain storage mechanism. Your Florentine's entire trait data is stored permanently on-chain via SSTORE2. Your NFT, no matter the traits, is onchain forever. No IPFS links.

How does the uniqueness / combo system work?

Each unique combination of traits is called a "combo." The contract enforces uniqueness: no two Florentines can ever have the same combo. Once a combo is minted, it's gone. Move fast.

Can I change my traits?

Yes. You can swap your Florentine's traits anytime using the trait selector. You preview your desired combo, confirm it, and sign. Your Florentine remains 100% onchain, no matter it's traits.

I minted Mona Lisa. Can I switch to Botticelli?

No. The character is randomly assigned and permanent. But you can change how that Mona Lisa looks — her eyes, head, mouth, neck, and background — anytime.

Is this AI art?

No, each pixel is painstakingly placed by hand, in Aseprite. It's a Gameboy x Renaissance mashup.

What traits are available?

140+ traits across 5 categories: Background, Neck, Head, Eyes, and Mouth. Traits include everything from Renaissance aesthetics, to crypto callbacks, and vidya references.
